Announcement of the Third Panel Discussion Topic

The theme for the Third Panel Discussion of the “Kovalyov Readings” 2022 dedicated to the centenary of the Mitrofan Kovalyov will be devoted to the reciprocal influence of the Criminal Law and Criminology!

Mitrofan Kovalyov was one of the first Soviet scientists to return criminology to the scientific Olympus. His most outstanding work "Fundamentals of Criminology" was published in 1970 with the stamp "For Official Use".

In Russia, lawyers are traditionally engaged in criminology, that’s why criminology was more of a hobby, rather than a "profound scientific area". According to Mitrofan Kovalev, criminology was "indulged", and not engaged.

Participants of the Third Panel Discussion «Criminology and Criminal Law: History of Reciprocal Influence» will discuss why is the profession of "criminologist" still perceived with surprise? Should Russian Criminology finally separate from Criminal Law? Is there empirical and practical criminology in Russia?
